Goal: In its pursuit to further the revitalization of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, the YMCA chose to develop a 65,000 sq. ft. community center, which included a partial renovation of the historic Lyric Theatre building. Their goal for the space was to provide a full-service, nurturing environment to help patrons of all ages improve their wellbeing and learn new skills. Therefore, they needed furnishing solutions that would allow the facilitation of family and youth programs, healthy living activities, and community meetings.
Scope: The John A Marshall Co. team worked closely with the YMCA to select, acquire, deliver, and install all furniture within this four-story facility. During development, the pandemic hit, so it was important to provide flexible furniture solutions to accommodate current conditions and then modify for future needs. Therefore, we provided mobile table and chair options for all meeting and learning spaces to allow rooms to be configured for physical distancing and to allow participants to tailor their set-up for a variety of meeting needs. Our team also provided employees with desking solutions, in addition to lounge seating throughout the facility to allow employees and patrons alike to enjoy the historic lobby, sit poolside, or relax with others.
