Catalyze Your Workplace for Growth
A Herman Miller study found that people working in environments fine-tuned to their activities and needs are more creative and collaborative, and their organizations see a variety of improvements as a result.
Herman Miller’s recent study found that people working in environments that are fine-tuned to their activities and needs are more creative and collaborative, and organizations report improvements in everything from productivity to innovation.
Before and after each redesign, people were asked how well the workplace was enabling their daily work activities and fulfilling their expectations. When individuals were asked if their workplace helps them be more productive, only 50% responded positively. However, after their workplace redesign, 75% of people said their work environment allows them to be more effective throughout their daily activities. Secondly, when asking individuals if their workplace gives them a sense of purpose, only 55% responded yes prior to the redesign. Once the redesign took place, 83% of people believed their workplace provided a sense of belonging.
Upon completion of Herman Miller’s research, there were three main takeaways: increase productivity; optimize real estate; and improve workplace agility. Aggregated results from the research partners show a 25% increase in employee perception of productivity after office redesign. People who inhabit research-based workplaces told Herman Miller they feel more creative and collaborative, as well as approach their work with more productivity and efficiency.
When organizations invest in workplace research, studies have found that they make more efficient use of their real estate and report measurable improvements in employee retention and innovation. One of Herman Miller’s research partners saw their employee turnover rate drop from 25% to only 10% after the redesign.
As smart workplace capabilities evolve, real-time data on space utilization and employee wellness will increasingly allow the workplace to directly respond to people’s needs and efficiently adapt to the ever-changing demands of your business.
